Best Microgreens for Beginners in India
Not all microgreens are created equal. Some are forgiving and fast — perfect for your first tray. Others are tricky and slow. Here's exactly where to start.
1. Radish (Mooli) — The #1 Beginner Choice
Germinates in 24–36 hours, ready in 8–10 days, and forgives almost every beginner mistake. Grows well in all seasons.
2. Fenugreek (Methi) — Most Indian
Deeply familiar flavour, incredibly easy to grow. The best winter variety.
3. Mustard (Sarson) — Fast and Spicy
One of the easiest and most reliable varieties. Germinates within 24 hours, ready in under 10 days.
4. Pea shoots (Matar) — Sweet and Filling
The thickest, most satisfying crop for beginners. Best in winter (October–March).
5. Sunflower — High Protein, Big Leaves
Thick, satisfying, mild nutty flavour. Needs hull soaking. Ready in 10–12 days.
Varieties to Avoid First
- Coriander — low germination, takes 14–21 days
- Basil — never soak, forms gel; sow completely dry
- Beetroot — slow (14–21 days), more patience needed
