What to Look for in a Microgreens Trainer in India — Sonia Pardasani's Honest Guide

India's microgreens training industry has exploded in the last three years. There are now dozens of trainers across the country — some genuinely experienced, many who watched a few YouTube videos and launched a course. As someone who has trained 2,000+ growers since 2020 and holds the Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Award for excellence in education, I want to give you an honest framework for choosing the right trainer — even if you don't choose me.

Bottom line upfront: A good microgreens trainer has actually grown and sold microgreens commercially. They can show you real students, real results, and real income numbers — not inflated claims.

1. Do They Actually Grow Microgreens?

This sounds obvious, but it matters. Ask to see their grow room, their current trays, their harvest photos. A trainer who is actively growing has live knowledge of what's working right now — not theory from a manual written three years ago.

Red flag: trainers who only show stock photos or generic images. Green flag: a trainer who can show you their farm, their customer base, and their current growing challenges.

2. Have They Actually Sold Microgreens?

Growing and selling are completely different skills. India has plenty of excellent growers who have never built a customer base. If you want to learn the business side — pricing, packaging, approaching restaurants, building a subscription base — your trainer needs to have done it themselves.

Ask: "Who are your current customers? How did you find them? What do you charge?" A real trainer answers these questions without hesitation.

3. Are Their Income Claims Realistic?

You will see claims of ₹3 lakh, ₹5 lakh, even ₹7 lakh per month from microgreens. Some of these are possible — at full commercial scale, with a strong customer base, after 2–3 years of building the business. They are not what a beginner will earn in month one.

Honest trainers tell you: growing is 10% of the business. Selling is 90%. They show you a realistic path from ₹10,000–15,000 per month in year one, scaling up as you build customers. If a trainer promises guaranteed income without explaining the sales process, walk away.

4. What Happens After the Workshop?

Most beginners face their hardest challenges in the week after their first training — when they sow their first tray at home and something goes wrong. Mold appears. Seeds don't germinate. The growing medium dries out.

A good trainer stays with you after the session. At BageechaBox, every workshop participant gets 3 months of WhatsApp support — you can send a photo of your tray and get a real answer within hours. Ask any trainer: "What support do I get after the session?"

5. Can They Show You Real Students?

Testimonials on a website are easy to manufacture. Ask for: verifiable reviews on Google, Instagram posts from real students tagging the trainer, or introductions to past students you can speak with directly. A trainer with 2,000+ trained growers across India has a community you can see and verify.

6. Is the Trainer FSSAI Aware?

If you're growing microgreens commercially and selling food in India, FSSAI registration applies to you. A good trainer will explain this — what registration you need, when it becomes mandatory, and how to stay compliant. Trainers who ignore food safety compliance are leaving you exposed.

BageechaBox is FSSAI licensed (License No. 23326010000743) and MSME registered — we teach compliance as part of every commercial training programme.

7. Does the Format Match Your Learning Style?

A live online masterclass suits someone who learns well from demonstrations and wants flexibility. An in-person hands-on workshop suits someone who learns by doing — sowing and harvesting in the same session. A 10-day programme suits someone who wants close mentorship through their first full growing cycle.

There is no single best format. Choose what matches how you actually learn, not what's cheapest or most convenient.
