How to Sow Microgreen Seeds — Even Germination Every Time
Uneven sowing is one of the most common causes of patchy germination, leggy growth, and mold. Here's the right method.
Before You Sow — Check Your Soaking
First, verify whether your seeds need pre-soaking. Check the soaking guide — fenugreek, peas, and sunflower need 8–12 hours soaking; radish and mustard don't. Always set up your cocopeat setup before sowing.
Seed Density Guide
| Variety | Seeds per 10×10 tray |
| Radish, Mustard, Broccoli | 15–20g |
| Fenugreek | 25–30g |
| Sunflower | 60–80g (hull-on) |
| Pea Shoots | 80–100g |
The Sowing Technique
- Measure the seeds by weight — don't eyeball it
- Scatter in small pinches across the whole tray surface
- Use your fingers to fill any bare patches
- Press gently but firmly with a flat object
- Cover immediately and move to blackout stage
If Seeds Don't Germinate
See the germination problems guide. The most common cause is old seeds or wrong moisture level. After germination, switch to proper watering technique.
