India's climate is extreme and varied. The same seed behaves completely differently in December versus May. Understanding how temperature affects germination and growth will make you a far more consistent grower.
The Ideal Growing Temperature
18°C–26°C is the sweet spot for most microgreens. This naturally occurs during October–March in most parts of India.
Season-by-Season Guide
☀️ Summer — April to June (30–45°C)
Challenge level: High. Heat speeds up germination but also mold growth. Seeds soaked in warm water ferment faster. Cocopeat dries out rapidly. See the full summer growing guide.
🌧️ Monsoon — July to September (28–35°C + High Humidity)
Challenge level: Very High. Humidity above 70% means mold spores are everywhere. Airflow is #1 priority. Stick to fast-growing varieties like radish and fenugreek.
❄️ Winter — October to March (12–25°C)
Challenge level: Low — Best Season. Almost every variety grows well. See the full winter growing guide. Extend blackout to 2.5–3 days, water every 1.5–2 days, try challenging varieties.
Growing by Region — North vs South India
🏙️ North India — Extreme Range
Delhi/NCR · Jaipur · Lucknow · Chandigarh
- Summer (Apr–Jun): 38–47°C — AC room mandatory, radish/mustard/amaranth only
- Monsoon (Jul–Sep): 30–38°C + 75–90% humidity — fan critical, harvest early
- Winter (Oct–Mar): 10–24°C — golden season, every variety possible
- Jan nights: Can drop to 4–6°C — keep trays away from cold windows
🌴 South India — Moderate Range
Bangalore · Mumbai · Chennai · Hyderabad · Kochi
- Bangalore: 18–32°C year-round — India's best city for microgreens
- Mumbai/Kochi: Humidity 70–90% year-round — airflow is the #1 priority
- Chennai/Hyderabad: Hot (30–42°C) Apr–Jun — AC growing recommended
- South India advantage: No frost, milder winters — fewer adjustments needed
